About StairEditor

What is StairEditor?

StairEditor is a free online tool for designing and visualizing staircases. You can calculate dimensions, view 2D and 3D renderings, optimize for comfort using Blondel's law, and export professional PDFs.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The free editor requires no registration. You can design and preview layouts immediately; checkout is only needed to unlock exact technical measurements and exports.

How accurate are the calculations?

Our calculations are based on Blondel's formula (2H + G = 600-650mm) and building code standards. They're accurate for design and planning, but always consult local building codes before construction.

Design Features

What staircase types can I design?

You can design straight staircases, quarter-turn, half-turn (double quarter-turn), spiral, and alternating tread (Japanese) staircases.

Can I save my designs?

Free designs are saved in your browser via the URL. Share the URL to share your design with others. Pro users (coming soon) will have cloud-based project saving.

What is a "comfort grade"?

The comfort grade is a 0-100 score based on how well your staircase follows Blondel's formula and building codes. Higher scores = more comfortable stairs.

Can I change units (mm, inches)?

Yes, you can switch between millimeters and inches from the parameter panel. Calculations stay in millimeters internally to keep a precise base.

Exports & Premium Features

What formats can I export?

Free users can preview the layout with locked measurements. Premium users unlock exact dimensions and get clean PDFs. DXF/CAD, STL/OBJ, and XLS exports are coming soon.

Can I use the PDFs for construction?

Yes, our PDFs include drawings, dimensions, and build checks. Detailed drawings cover straight, quarter-turn, and half-turn stairs. Always verify measurements and consult local building codes.

What is DXF and why do I need it?

DXF is a CAD format that professional carpenters and CNC machines can read. This export is coming soon.

Can I 3D print my staircase?

Not yet. STL/OBJ exports for physical mockups are coming soon.

Pricing & Payment

Is the free tier really unlimited?

Yes, the free tier has no limits on number of designs, edits, or views. You only pay when you want exact technical measurements and professional exports.

What's the difference between DIY Pass and Pro?

DIY Pass ($19) is one-time, good for 72 hours, perfect for a single project. Pro Monthly/Annual is for recurring use by professionals.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, Pro Monthly can be cancelled anytime. Pro Annual comes with a 14-day refund guarantee.

Do you accept different currencies?

Yes, we accept USD, EUR, GBP, and automatically detect your location. Prices adjust for your region.

Technical

What browsers do you support?
