Terms of Service

1. Purpose

These Terms of Service (hereinafter "Terms") define the conditions of use of the StairEditor website and web application, accessible at staireditor.com (hereinafter "the Service"), published by Georges Cosson, sole proprietor (hereinafter "the Publisher").

By using the Service, you fully accept these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

StairEditor is an online staircase design tool that allows users to:

  • Create staircase plans from simple measurements
  • Visualize staircases in 2D and 3D
  • Obtain indicative calculations (riser height, going, Blondel formula, comfort score)
  • Export plans in PDF format, with DXF, STL/OBJ, and XLS exports planned as coming-soon features
  • Save projects via a user account

The Service is available in a free version and paid versions. Features for each tier are detailed on the Site's pricing page and in the Terms of Sale.

3. Access to the Service

The Service is freely accessible to any user with an Internet connection. The Publisher endeavors to maintain the Service available 24/7 but does not guarantee permanent availability.

The Publisher reserves the right to suspend, interrupt, or limit access to all or part of the Service, notably for maintenance, updates, or any other reason, without prior notice or compensation.

4. User Accounts

4.1 Account Creation

Access to certain features (project saving, purchases) requires creating an account. Registration is done via a magic link sent to the email address provided by the user.

4.2 User Responsibility

The user is responsible for the security of their email address and all access to their account. The user agrees to immediately inform the Publisher of any unauthorized use of their account.

4.3 Account Deletion

The user may request account deletion at any time by contacting contact@staireditor.com. Deletion results in the permanent erasure of personal data and saved projects.

5. Intellectual Property

5.1 Publisher's Rights

The Service, its content (text, graphics, software, algorithms, interface), and its structure are protected by copyright and intellectual property rights. Any unauthorized reproduction, representation, modification, or exploitation is prohibited.

5.2 User's Rights Over Their Designs

Staircase designs created by the user through the Service belong to the user. The Publisher claims no ownership rights over user projects.

The user grants the Publisher a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and process their projects solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

6. Acceptable Use

The user agrees to use the Service in compliance with applicable laws and these Terms. The following are specifically prohibited:

  • Attempting to decompile, disassemble, or reverse-engineer the software
  • Using the Service to generate unlawful content
  • Disrupting or attempting to disrupt the operation of the Service
  • Accessing the Publisher's systems without authorization
  • Reproducing or redistributing the Service or its content without permission

7. Important Warning — Limitation of Liability

7.1 Nature of the Service

StairEditor is a design assistance tool. It does not constitute architectural, structural engineering, or construction advice of any kind.

All calculations, measurements, plans, and information provided by the Service are given for indicative purposes only and are provided on an "as is" basis, without any warranty of any kind, express or implied.

7.2 Duty to Verify

The user is solely responsible for verifying all calculations, measurements, and plans generated by the Service before any use, in particular before any construction.

The user must:

  • Have plans reviewed by a qualified professional (architect, structural engineer, qualified craftsperson) before any construction
  • Ensure compliance with local construction standards and regulations (building codes, local norms)
  • Verify the suitability of materials and load-bearing structures
  • Obtain any necessary permits from the relevant authorities

7.3 Exclusion of Liability

The Publisher accepts no liability for any direct or indirect damage resulting from the use of calculations, plans, or information provided by the Service, including but not limited to:

  • Calculation, measurement, or representation errors
  • Material, personal, or consequential damages related to the construction of a staircase designed using the Service
  • Non-compliance with local standards and regulations
  • Consequences of construction decisions made based on information from the Service

In no event shall the Publisher's liability exceed the total amount actually paid by the user during the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

7.4 Force Majeure

The Publisher shall not be held liable in cases of force majeure or events beyond its control.

8. External Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites. The Publisher has no control over the content of these sites and accepts no responsibility for their content.

9. Modifications to the Terms

The Publisher reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Modifications take effect upon publication on the Website. Continued use of the Service after publication of modifications constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

In the event of a substantial modification, the Publisher will endeavor to inform users with an account by email.

10. Applicable Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by French law.

In the event of a dispute, and after an attempted amicable resolution, consumer users may use the free consumer mediation service in accordance with Articles L.611-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code. The competent mediator will be provided upon request at contact@staireditor.com.

Failing amicable resolution, the French courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
